
What photo will make a good painting?
The photo should be in focus or at least the main area of interest should be in focus.
The subject should have a sense of light that is either:
- a strong light source from the sun or a spotlight. (for example, giving the subject
shadows, with maybe reflected or accent lights in the strong shadow areas
can be very useful for figurative works or portraits).
- subtle light as in atmospheric lighting, creating a sense of mood or atmosphere.
If you are thinking of blending two photos together, make sure the light source is the same.
The use of a flash light straight on the subject is to be avoided.
The image should be:
- your photo and should not violate any copyright laws
- cropped, removing any unnecessary background/foreground, while still allowing for further cropping by the artist, if needed.
